It may make me give NB another try. It would greatly ease the migration path, since I certainly wouldn't like to spend a lot of time searching for plugin-based equivalents for features Eclipse provides out-of-the-box.

I'll post more in the future and take your suggestions into consideration.Charles Oliver Nutterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06400331959739924670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20975090.post-61464188070622419732006-08-27T03:59:00.000-05:002006-08-27T03:59:00.000-05:00I overlooked the version you use, so if you're on ...I overlooked the version you use, so if you're on 5.5b2, you're already using the new SVN support.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20975090.post-65914411173305704162006-08-27T03:56:00.000-05:002006-08-27T03:56:00.000-05:00Hi, some (hopefully helpful) comments to your post...Hi, some (hopefully helpful) comments to your post from a guy working in the NetBeans team... :)

- SVN support is available by default in 6.0 milestones and will be in final 6.0 release.
- Maven plug-in is available here:
http://mevenide.codehaus.org/m2-site
- Antialiasing of the whole IDE should work on JDK6 automatically (if you use Gnome on your Ubuntu). AFAIK since JDK6 this setting is taken from the general desktop settings. Btw some people prefer no antialiasing for small fonts but I agree there should be an easy way to set this.
- Not everybody loves perspectives :)
- Better syntax coloring and other improvements of editor are planned for version 6.0, see:
http://blogs.sun.com/jlahoda/entry/new_features_in_netbeans_ide
- For FIXMEs, see:
http://tasklist.netbeans.org
- Search results higlighting - just search for empty string, that removes the highlighting.
- I guess we can't really change the name because we invested a lot in spreading the word about NetBeans... if we changed the name we had to start again with a new product name.
- Slow startup - you can turn off some modules in Tools | Module Manager, that improves the startup speed. See:
http://blogs.sun.com/roumen/entry/netbeans_startup_performance_tips
- Which version are you using? There is a new subversion module available for NetBeans 5.5 and it's really much better than the old one. It's available on Tools | Update center.

Hope this helps!

Just out of curiosity, why did you decide to give NetBeans another try?

Feel free to contact me if you have other questions at roman dot strobl at sun dot com.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
